The short version.
SyllabusSpy is free and provided as it is. These terms exist so both of us know where we stand, not to bury anything.
The dates are a draft
Reading a syllabus automatically is best-effort. It will occasionally miss a deadline, misread a date, or invent one from a line that only looked like a schedule. That is why every extraction passes through a review step before it reaches your calendar. Check it. A missed assignment is not something we can be responsible for — the syllabus your professor wrote is still the authority.
Use it for your own coursework
Upload syllabi you were given as a student or wrote as an instructor. Do not use the service to redistribute material you have no right to, and do not point automated tools at it in volumes that would spoil it for everyone else.
Canvas access
A Canvas token you paste is yours, issued by your own institution, and subject to their rules. Use it here only if your institution permits it.
It may not be here forever
SyllabusSpy is free, and it is run by one person rather than a company. It may be shut down at any point, without notice, and there is no uptime guarantee in the meantime. Nobody is promising you a term's worth of service, and you should not plan a semester on the assumption of one.
Two things go with it if it goes. Reminder emails stop arriving — and even while it is running they are best-effort, not a guarantee: one can be late, be filtered by your mail provider, or list a date the parser read wrong. Calendar subscriptions stop updating, because a subscription is your calendar re-reading a link on this server, and a link on a server that is gone returns nothing. Depending on how your calendar handles that, the entries may go stale where they sit or vanish altogether.
So keep your own copy of anything that matters. The
.ics download
exists partly for this reason: a calendar you have already imported from a file keeps working
whatever happens here. And your syllabus is still the authority — this was always meant to
save you typing, not to be the only place a deadline is written down.
Your content
The schedules you save stay yours. We claim no ownership of them and make no other use of them than showing them back to you and sending the reminders you asked for.
Agreeing to this
Signing in is where you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy, and the three points above the checkbox — the dates are a draft, it may be shut down without notice, and the emails and subscriptions go with it — are the ones worth reading twice. Your account records which version you agreed to and when. If these terms change in substance, you will be asked again the next time you sign in, and account holders are told in writing.
Ending it
You can delete your account whenever you like — it is a button in the account dialog, it takes effect immediately, and every schedule, subscription link and reminder setting goes with it. That is also the answer if you decide you do not agree with any of the above: there is nothing to negotiate and nothing to email about, you just leave. We may suspend an account that is being used to attack or abuse the service.
